Fulbright Scholar Helps Baltimore Artist Achieve His Dreams

Mighty Om (William Parrish) is a musician and visual artist from Baltimore who brings together jazz, Eastern spirituality, and gritty street lyricism. He is the creator of “Guru and the Gangster”, a hip hop web comic that features both his illustration and vocal talent. His upcoming mixtape entitled “Grind Daily” will be released by Gnawledge Records February 7th, 2010. His full length album will be released summer of 2010.

Canyon Cody started Gnawledge Records in 2004. He is a producer, self-taught ethnomusicologist and global music DJ.
In 2008, Canyon Cody was a Fulbright Scholar to Spain, where he organized Granada Doaba, an academic experiment in instrumental hip-hop rooted in traditional flamenco and Arab music. William Parrish (Mighty Om) was part of a study abroad program hosted by Towson University. It was there that the two met and began to collaborate, recording tracks and performing shows throughout the city of Granada. Having studied jazz piano at Peabody Preparatory under Charles Covington, William was a perfect match for Gnawledge Records, a label known for focusing on, lyricism, melody, and quality artwork, not just the boom bap of hip hop drums.

In 2009 William Parrish co-founded Hyrogliphics, LLC a social enterprise based in Baltimore that uses art and music to educate and entertain. For more information go to: gnawledge.com/ and myspace.com/mightyommusic
